| Well, I've been really enjoying my Spring Break. It feels so good to just sit back and relax... and not have to worry about schoolwork. I was really starting to feel depressed about school and classes for next year, so this is what I needed.
I've been visiting colleges over Spring Break; it's been very informative for me. My mom and I decided to stay kinda close to home, so we visited colleges in Indiana and Ohio: specifically Butler U, Earlham College, and Miami of Ohio. And... here's what I found:
Butler - a really nice school with a great Chemistry program. I sat in on an Organic Chemistry class, and the teacher was really nice and taught really well; I could actually understand what they were talking about! (scary... xD) But, there's no visual arts program (like painting, drawing, photography, etc.), which really turns me off since art is probably going to be one of my majors (along with Chemistry- double major time!). So, I'm probably not going to apply there. But it's a great school.
Earlham - Wow. I was thoroughly impressed with this college. I sat in on an Organic Chemistry class, but before that I actually met with the chemistry prof and talked with him for a while: about what I'm interested in, what the students at Earlham are learning now, what I've learned so far, and what the lecture was going to be about. And the class was small... and all of the students were really nice to me. I took a tour of the campus with a really nice young woman who's a junior.. she not only told me good things about Earlham, but told me the things she didn't like about it; not something I usually get from colleges/universities. Then I had an interview with the admissions counselor who works around the Fort Wayne area finding students for Earlham; he was really nice, and told me that Earlham was actually looking for people like me. Overall, I got a very good impression of this place, and I'm definitely applying.
Miami of Ohio - Well, I heard that the Chemistry program here was really very well-known, so I decided to check it out. But... I never expected it to be so... HUGE. And at the Admissions meeting, there were, like, 200 people there; I felt like such a number. And my mom and I were early (we came at about 10:00 when we were supposed to be there at 10:30), but when I got in there the admissions people gave me a hard time about being LATE. I was kind of pissed at that. It was just... not welcoming. I don't think I'm going to be applying there.
So, yeah. My first three days of Spring Break were interesting. :) And I got some really funny pictures... If you want, I can let y'all see them.
Hope everyone's having a great Spring Break! ^_^ |
